People ask me all the time what can I do with my dog to give back? Many times the only type of therapy work people think of is nursing home visits, and don’t get me wrong there are many wonderful things you and your dog can take from bringing happiness to those in nursing homes, but I wanted to share a picture I took today of Leo at the Shawnee branch of the Johnson County Library! You see Leo is a R.E.A.D. Dog (Reading Education Assistance Dog) She goes to schools and libraries and kids read to her. It is a great way to promote reading and help kids who otherwise would not want to read out loud due to the fear of being made fun of… Dogs are just plain non-judgemental and could care less what reading level a child is at. All they want is to be petted and spend time with these children! So, I guess what I am saying is this… Go out and do something with your dog and if this idea sounds like fun, well then go for it 🙂
